We kicked off our first day in Scotland at a morning tea with members from the High Kirk in Stevenston (We spent a lot of time serving at this church as well as in Kilmarnock.) After meeting the people in Stevenston, our host families really wanted to show us around their town. They first took us to Dean Castle and then to Kilmarnock football club. The hometown football aka soccer team is the center of the town. Kilmarnock won the League Cup this year which was a big deal. We were able to hold the trophy and meet the manager. After spending a few more hours with our host families we went down to the tennis club and Kirstie, Trey, and I taught a tennis clinic to some of the older ladies and the teenage guys. Because Scotland is so much further north than North Carolina it stays light till about 11 o’clock in the summer. So we played tennis without lights till about ten forty-five. -Josh
We woke up early before the coffee morning so that we could pray as a team on the beach in Stevenson. We prayed that people would give us ideas of who we could serve and it was a great morning of fellowship and kind of got us geared up for the rest of the trip. Touring Dean Castle was good way to start the trip, but also at the same time we wanted to get working on the mission. We also toured the Kilmarnock Football club and had the opportunity to hold the trophy which they won this year. -Emma
Day 3 was our big day to get acclimated to the people, the climate, the schedules, the time zone, etc. We headed over to Stevenston to meet with some of the folks at the High Kirk there. This gave us an opportunity to strike up old friendships, and for Josh and I to get to build some new ones. We were also able to determine some needs within the church that we would be able to address later on. Exploring Dean Castle was fantastic. I love the Medieval Ages and exploring the castles were a huge highlight to my trip. Once again, we had a lovely time just getting to know our host family better. -Trey
