Day 8: Mud, Muck and Weeds

This week Kirstie started doing a camp for the teenage boys for 8 to 10 in the morning. So Monday we got there at 8 and the courts were all flooded so all of the boys piled into two cars and we all drove to the High Kirk. The twelve of us worked at the High Kirk for seven hours. We clipped, chopped, and dug for hours. We filled forty plus bags with weeds and sticks and had a fantastic time doing it. At lunch Trey was able to share his testimony. That night we ate at St. Rules house. That was a fantastic time of fellowship with friends from Stevenston and a fantastic meal. -Josh

God was so good and still is so good. The boys were supposed to play tennis all morning and then bring the Scotland boys back to do yard work at the High Kirk, but it rained so much that tennis wasn’t an option and all of us were able to work for 7 hours  at the High Kirk weeding, digging, and clearing out plants. Trey, Josh and Mum were able to have some great conversations with the boys while Mrs. Higdon talked with some of the ladies. One of the coolest things was hearing the Scotland boys say they enjoyed working and that it was the right thing to do. Trey shared his testimony with the guys and had them all focused and attentive on him and they all really enjoyed it. While they did some of the work, I had the opportunity to go and have tea with the sweet lady whose house we stayed at 2 years ago. We just spent time in the Word, and talked a lot about the end times and what she expects. She is one of those people who you could just sit and listen to all day long and never get tired of it.  Another one of my highlights was going to dinner at this house which was decorated with medieval swords, armor, and paintings. We had some wonderful Christian fellowship with some friends from Stevenson. It was such an uplifting and encouraging night and a nice reprieve from the mission work and a small break for us as a team to talk about the blessings of the previous week. -Emma

Today was one of my top highlights for the trip. We had planned to do tennis in the morning, then go after lunch to the High Kirk. The Boys were going to come over and help us after tennis finished at 3. It was pouring rain and the courts had puddles covering them. Once again, God intervened to bring about one of the best days of the trip. It rained on and off all day. That didn’t stop us. We went from 9-almost 5 working in the mud and muck and weeds. We were able to totally overhaul the flower beds on the church grounds. This was such a phenomenal bonding time between us and the Scotland Boys. You can chat with someone all you like and slowly get to know them, but when you do work, play, and life with people, you can get to know them on such a deeper level. This was certainly the case on Monday. We were able to grow our relationships, share the Gospel, and draw each of the Boys out. That night, the dinner was unbelieveable, one of the best of my life. The fellowship was even better. Tom, Sue, Venetia, Ian, and Elaine provided us with so much encouragement, laughter, and joy. I love those people! -Trey
